yo ho ho ...

yo ho ho ...

i did say that it was an emerging theme, didn't i ?

interestingly, out of the four people sat either side of me at the meeting today two of them were also doodling away (one a car, the other an armchair). i'd like to think that i was at least partly responsible for this blatant wave of unprofessionalism.

...or it could have been the rather dull meeting.

ahoy, me hearties !...

ahoy, me hearties !...

unusually there seems to have been a new theme emerging in the doodles that i produced today. we've not had many pirates before, have we ?

(in fact, only one, here )

...so from left to right a pirate, a skull'n'crossbones, and a mitochodria (one of my favourite forms of all time).

son of doodler gets in on the sponsorship deal...?

son of doodler gets in on the sponsorship deal...?

nope, but the boy has talent.

this is j's response to my previous doodle.

...he makes me so proud.

sponsored by subway...?

sponsored by subway...?

nope, unfortunately not (although i am open to offers - "your business napkin/headed stationery doodled-on here".)

anyhoo, what we appear to have here is a a godzilla-like confrontation between a badly-drawn box robot, and a huge lizard-like creature. set against your typical disaster-strewn city-scape.

...and encompassing some atypical oldenburgian giant tomatoes.

robot doctor strikes again...

robot doctor strikes again...

oh my goodness, i'm so funny.

did you see what i did there ? i even built-in a pun around the theme of the strip within the subject line of the blog post...

yeesh - i'm good.

a frightened robotic bat...?

a frightened robotic bat...?

...well that's what it looks like to me.

...maybe the bat is me.

...maybe i'm feeling that there is a grasping hand appearing from the very ground beneath my feet to pull me down ???

large-headed mannequin vehicles...

large-headed mannequin vehicles...

that seems to be the way in which this particular meeting went; not quite sure how though.

when i was scribbling away, though, it did occur to me that there were similarities to the giant alien spider that walked through the streets of liverpool a couple of years ago La Princess.

robot doctor, now in colour...

robot doctor, now in colour...

yes, I bought some new pens this evening. I need no less, and no more excuse than that!

another robot doctor...

another robot doctor...

yep!

a robot doctor...

a robot doctor...?

image the hilarious possibilities...

well yes, I plan to. hope you enjoy it, made me chuckle anyway.

a dog on a flying carpet?

a dog on a flying carpet...?

yes, of course it is, what else would you expect?

and look, there he is chasing his radio controlled tennis ball, holding his bone-shaped remote control in his little paw.

... this is one of the fruits of a three-hour sales presentation.

odd looking robot...

odd looking robot...

a couple of hours worth of meeting, and this is all I can muster? I put it down to my not feeling very well. sniff sniff cough.

puzzled figure...

puzzled figure...

on the head of a pin. actually a little guy for a logo / character I'm toying with. not sure why he's standing on a drawing pin, though...

...unless my unconscious mind enjoys making puns as much as I do!

another robot...

another robot...

but trying a blog post with my new android phone via 'blog away' makes the picture just a little more apt doncha think?

king octopus...

king octopus...

says it all really.

gather 'round children, and let me sing to you the story of the great 'king octopus' of london town.

aye, he would float twenty feet above the ol' river thames, in days of yore; and that poorly realised, yet regal, monster would sing for the souls of the honest sailors as they navigated those troubled waters.

seemingly random...

seemingly random...

which is what i like about this little corner-filler (gracing the spaces within a powerpoint table, for those paying very close attention).

sure we have the ol' rocket ship, and superhero - although reduced to an iconographic type image, which i like.

but we also seem to have the house from 'UP!', and a strange geometric inca-type head-dress thingy.

...try harder md, more like this!

a sentient stalagmite ?

a sentient stalagmite ?

yes, he might indeed.

so it's up to generic mini-superheroes to save the day from this subterranean menace.

...to be fair, it doesn't look that menacing to me, maybe i'm just trying to inject some level of excitement into a slightly lackluster margin-filler?

poor supes...

poor supes...

he appears to be trapped in some sort of confinement bubble.

...so what do we know?

1. the bubble appears to be controlled by the strange, smiley, decapitated-head creatures;

2. the bubble is uncharacteristically impervious to the localised shower of pins that surrounds it (either that or my shading method became a little rococo, and broke the third wall)

3. there appears to be another super-person hanging from a balloon !!!

4. i definitely had too much time on my hands in this meeting.

... i like the bubble though.

(keep on doodling superman, though; ego-problems, anyone?)

some underwater scene, it seems...

some underwater scene, it seems...

robot ? check

rocket ? check

tentacles ? check

so predictable i have descended into self parody, it appears.

robot looks a little like a duck, though, i think: and the rocket has those nose-cone fins that we've not seen before 'plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose' as a french bloke once said.

behind you, superman...

behind you, superman...

it was a week or so ago, but i do believe this was a 'phone doodle, with a little highlighter flourish at the end for colour.

is this me?
am i floating along oblivious to something large and threatening behind me?
is it better for me not to turn around in this situation?

peek-a-boo !

peek-a-boo !

...so at this point in the conference i'm getting a little bored.

i think that the exaggerated eyes on this alien thingy were some subconscious steer to my brain not to allow my eyelids to drop for one moment.

time for another table mint, i think...

don't mind if i do !

zzzt...

ok, i know, i know, it's another robot doodle.

but, you know what, i like robot doodles.

(and the people looking over my shoulder during this national conference last week seemed to like the giant robot attack, too).

ah, the wonder of the conference - no-one expects any input from you, they give you pads, pens and bowls of sweets on your table... frankly it'd be criminal NOT to doodle!

a dreaming crab...

a dreaming crab...

...and that crab, apparently dreams only of becoming a robot.

looks like a nice robot to me; can't say the same for the crab, though, i'm afraid. those red eyes look a little menacing to me... or maybe it's just that my pen didn't have the anti-red eye turned on.

a flaming skull...

a flaming skull...

no, don't worry, i'm not going all metal on you; this is another doodle from the pirate kitty meeting.

why so many doodles posted today ?

could it simply be because of the number of meetings i've had this week; or is it to assuage my guilt over sullying the purity of this blog by the rampant commercialism exhibited in the post plugging the shirtyberty online t-shirt shop?

i'll let you decide... as you take time to browse through some of the humorous designs on offer...

rockets and robots...

rockets and robots...

i know, not exactly a stylistic leap i'll give you that one; but i'm afraid this appears to be my default setting.

so the rocket is probably indication of a deep-seated desire to escape the meeting / job / planet that i find myself involved with.

the robot ? possibly my subconscious telling me to get that damn book finished and submitted to a publisher.

thirteen points on the agenda; maybe the meeting was cursed...

ahoy, pirate kitty...

ahoy, pirate kitty...

yes, it's been a week of meetings in the world of the doodler - dozens of pieces of actual work that need to be completed, so let's all sit around in a big room and talk about how many tasks we have to complete; and how we don't have nearly enough time to complete them; and maybe we should set up a meeting to ask for more time.

oh yes, this is my life...

www.shirtyberty.com

test

hi doodlers !

we all love t-shirts, right ?
and we all love clanging visual puns, yes ?
but we all wish that these two great loves could be brought together at one short memorable URL, agreed ?

well finally that search is over; i give you... shirtyberty.com

pun-laden tees are what they do best over there.

buy one for a loved one,
buy one for a friend,
buy one for an acquaintance,
hell, buy one for a complete stranger for all i care, just get over there and take a look around !

md.
