coming in to land...
coming in to land...
another slightly blurry mobile 'phone image, but it's just easier ok?
this doodle can be found in the margin at the top of one of the 44 CVs that i had to review and score recently... yeeesh!
you might think that this might imply my desire to 'fly away', and escape the task in hand; however the aircraft is coming in to land. go figure!

a simple one
a simple one, a cute little robot.
the 'phone pictures still aint the best, i grant you, but i do like the edge of the ring-bound pad with the wafer of desk beneath it.
you know me, i'm a bit of a one for the ol' robot doodle, and this one is similar to many penned before, however i still kinda like the proportion of eyes to head, and the legs too.

someone with an orange for a head ??
someone with an orange for a head ??
you know, to be honest i'm still not convinced by the quality of these images - still look a little fuzzy to me. they look like those faked photo-shopped images that mac-addicts produce just before the keynotes, with a bit of blur effect added for authenticity, and to hide the joins.
i'll try harder, but it may be back to the scanner for me, with the inevitable delays that it'll cause.

long time, no post / mac os logos abound !
long time, no post. i know, i know, how are you ?
hold on a minute... have you been working out or something, because you look great!
it's not only the increased workload that has impacted on my posts of late, although their frequency and intricacy have certainly been diminished as a result; no, it's the fact that it's a faff to hook-up my laptop, fire up the scanner, and get the damn things into electronic format.
so my solution - to which this post bears testimony - is to see if i can get away with taking pictures with my new mobile 'phone, digitisation on-the-fly if you will.
lets see how we all feel about the picture quality, shall we? looks a little fuzzy and dull to me, but maybe i just need to take the 'photo outdoors next time.
ok, lets see then, superman (no surprises there), a few stylised faces which appear to become a customised mac os logo - which i have a feeling that i might be using in the near future... watch this space !

the actual presentation...
some kind of giant dinosaur monster attack!
some kind of giant dinosaur monster attack !
not all that impressed by this doodle, to be honest; but i did manage to avoid the usual themes (see previous post); and i do like the odd face in the top left-hand-side of the page...
this face looks quite interesting to me, like a greek mask of tragedy, masquerading (no pun intended) as the sun in the corner of the sky.

still not very successful...
still not very successful at avoiding the usual themes - true we may have a pairing of giant and mini aliens that we've never seen before; but we also have some rocket-packing spacemen who look very much like the guys we've seen spacewalking in the past
... and, of course, there's still a dirty great space rocket at the bottom of the doodle !
i guess the problem is that when i doodle it's a relatively subconscious act for me, so i would normally have no active thought process as i'm doodling.
so if i start to thing 'i don't want to doodle this or that' then i enevitably start thinking about what i should doodle instead; and then it all gets a little contrived.
ah well, i sit through the same presentation again tomorrow; lets see what we get then, eh "?
not very successful...

a driller-robot superhero battle
a driller-robot superhero battle was underway during the early stages of yesterday's first meeting.
by this point i gather that people sitting behind me in the lecture theatre were paying a little more attention to my doodles than i had realised.
at the end of this meeting i decided that i'd try to avoid my old staples of robots, tentacles, superheroes and rocket ships.
watch this space to see how successful i was at this goal...

an octopus in specs
an octopus in specs, would you believe it ?
i suppose that it wouldn't take much imagination to decide that the octopus is me, and that i'm obviously feeling that i have 'a lot on' at the moment.
this, and the next few doodles to appear have all been the results of a series of three two-hour lectures that i was required to attend.

a floating alien platform...
floaty eyeball things
floaty eyeball things, being watched-over from a rocky promontory.
not so much a 'meeting doodle', but rather a 'sitting at my desk twiddling my thumbs doodle'. . . or maybe even 'sitting at my desk twiddling my thumbs, reaching for the post-it pad, unzipping my bag to find my highlighters doodle'
whatever, quite like it anyway - i must like it, i was clearly moved to make an appalling joke on this one.
Thursday, May 15, 2008
oh yes, the highlighters came out for this one
oh yes, the highlighters came out for this one.
what else am i expected to do when excel freezes-up on you, and stops your computer responding to your keystrokes, mouse gestures and threats of violence ?
listen, stop bleating on about my bloody virtual memory running out and run my sodding macro, will you ???
so anyway, due to popular demand we have the return of the 'startled opera singer' (may 2nd's post)
dunno, sorry, can't help you !
dunno, sorry, can't help you !
if i remember rightly this started as something like the great inventor (mel brooks') character in 'robots'; then it seemed important to have a little ridged neck, finished-off with a pair of little bats wings and some antennae.
hey, i've never maintained that there be any logic to these things !
all in all not so great, although the cross-hatching did keep me amused for a little while.
one of the x-men !

whatever you do, don't look up...
whatever you do, don't look up...
i do like this one, again it's from the 3hour session the other day.
i always reach a point, during one of these long meetings, when i start to wonder 'do they all think i'm furiously busy taking notes from this meeting, or do they realise i'm just doodling away?'
the former lends me the cloak of intelligence, rigour and conscientiousness; the latter reveals me for the scribbling buffoon that i truly am.
i like this one, though. tentacles again, a bit of a recurring theme for me of late.

look out, a giant hamster!
look out, a giant hamster!
this is the first hamster to appear in my margins; inspired - no doubt - by little j's mini hamster 'scratchy'.
this doodle is one of several produced the other day, during a 3 hour meeting to review, challenge & discuss the hundred or so page document that they're scribbled on.
more will follow...

mountaineers abound !
mountaineers abound !
yes, there are a few things happening here, we appear to have some silhouetted mountaineers scaling the east face of a summary table of benefits, whilst a generic office-worker appears to be confused by something (maybe what he's seen through the wall of his office ?)
and we also have the first appearance of a 'super-flasher' accosting someone as they descend a staircase.
oh yes, it was a meeting that was blissfully free of anything either useful or conclusive for those present.
i enjoyed myself, though; that has to count for something!

spacesquid again ?
spacesquid again ?
well, i suppose that this is familiar territory; which is probably telling people an awful lot more about my inner thoughts than i'd like them to know.
i put it all down to the space-battle i had with a tentacled alien when i was a child; such formative events in your life clearly have a lasting influence on you as you grow up.
either that, or the slightly pointless meeting that i attended the other day - full of expensive words, telling us the blindingly obvious.

once more unto the breach
once more unto the breach dear friends, once more... sorry it's been so long since i've posted; i'm afraid that i've found myself doing something that i'm not particularly proud of. i know i'm amongst friends, and that you won't judge me... i'm afraid that, of late, i've found myself working between the hours of 9 and 5 every day, with little or no time spent gazing into the middle distance during tedious meetings, scratching away with a 3rd-rate office biro.
...however, i'm going to try my best to get back on the slacking horse; so here we go
